Creeping Fig (Ficus pumila)

About this plant

The Creeping Fig (Ficus pumila) is one of the best plants for softening a bare wall or trailing over the edge of a pot. Its dense mat of tiny, heart-shaped green leaves clings tightly to walls, trellises and fences using its own adhesive rootlets — turning plain brick into a living green screen. It also spills beautifully from a hanging basket or a balcony railing. Give it bright, indirect light (it takes some shade but not harsh afternoon sun), keep the soil lightly moist, and it grows quickly through Lahore's warm months. A vigorous climber, so guide it where you want it and trim to keep it neat; the milky sap can mildly irritate skin.
