Motia (Arabian jasmine) is the scent of Lahore summers — a compact evergreen shrub covered in small, waxy white flowers whose sweet, unforgettable fragrance fills a courtyard on warm evenings. It blooms in flush after flush right through the summer and monsoon, and the flowers are the very ones strung into gajras and garlands. Give it a warm, sunny spot (full sun to light afternoon shade), water regularly through the hot months, and prune lightly after flowering to keep it bushy and full of buds. It is happy in a large pot by a doorway or seating area, or planted in the ground — wherever you will most enjoy the perfume.
