The Red Rose (desi gulab) is the heart of every Lahori garden — a classic, deep-red bloom with the rich, old-fashioned fragrance no modern hybrid quite matches. Hardy and generous, it flowers in flush after flush through the cooler months and gives armfuls of cut roses for the home. Grow it in the sunniest spot you have (six or more hours of direct sun), water deeply at the roots rather than over the leaves, and feed and lightly prune after each flush to keep new buds coming. It settles happily in a bed, a large pot or along a boundary — just mind the thorns near paths and children.
